Resilience of Infrastructure Networks - Case Studies for Road Traffic and for a Water Supply System

Mr. Peter Locher works as senior project manager in the safety and security department of EBP Schweiz AG. He holds a master in natural science at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH). During the last 27 years, Mr. Locher has been working in many projects in the field of probabilistic risk assessment and management, focussing on transportation systems, chemical plants and impacts of natural disaster on buildings. Peter Locher has worked for many different clients at government agencies, safety authorities and in private companies for projects in Switzerland, Germany and recently in China and Tajikistan. Resilience came into the focus of his work when dealing with disaster risk management (DRM) of infrastructure and cities. In recent years, he has also been working on the development of climate change scenarios, thereby applying downscaling techniques, and on the precipitation related impacts of climate change, with special focus on flash flood, river flood and drought. Quantitative estimates of uncertainties in DRM and cost effectiveness analyses to identify robust measures to reduce disaster risks and to enhance resilience against climate change are other active topics.
